| The landing obligation implemented under the Common Fisheries Policy promoted the development of fishing gear selective devices. The REDRESSE project conducted in the Bay of Biscay was the opportunity for trawl fleets targeting cephalopods, Nephrops and demersal fish to continue to test various selective configurations to reduce their discards levels. The sea trials were carried out onboard of commercial fishing vessels and the experimental tows were sampled by an observer. Most of the selective devices were tested under the twin trawl method, with on one side the gear to be tested and on the other, the standard commercial gear. | La détermination des formes et tensions d'une structure souple réticulée en équilibre dans un courant uniforme est un problème complexe. Dans cette étude, la structure considérée est un chalut dont seul le plan de coupe est, a priori, connu. La méthode itérative proposée permet de calculer les efforts hydrodynamiques exercés sur les côtés des mailles et la forme d'équilibre prise par le filet. Les difficultés de cette étude sont de trois ordres: - le comportement hydrodynamique des mailles de filet est mal connu. - un chalut est une structure infiniment souple qui n'a pas de forme propre, seule l'action des forces extérieures lui permet de prendre une certaine configuration. | Introduction : Since 1978, new measures to better manage lobster fisheries were implemented in the Celtic Sea within the context of Community regulations. Meshing, in particular, was set at 60mm, but many owners, in order to maintain sufficient leeway vis-à-vis the regulations and to avoid administrative hassles adopted at the outset fish meshing at 70mm, even 80mm. | Traditionally fished by line and conical fishing basket by Venezuelan ships, the red snapper resource off the coast of French Guyana (fish belonging to the Lutjanidae family) has been experiencing intensive fishing since 1984-85 due to the boom in classic fishing techniques and the development of trawl fishing. The study evaluates the situation of this resource's potential: biology, sampling data, bio-statistics (size and sex), size-weight relationship of the three species, specific composition of the catches, describes fishing devices and prospecting, pinpoints fishing spots, gives a distribution of the Venezuelan and Martinique fishing effort. |

| Traditionnellement exploitée à la ligne à main et à la nasse par les navires vénézuéliens, la ressource en vivaneaux au large de la Guyane Française (poissons appartenant à la famille des Lutjanidae) subit depuis 1984-85 une exploitation intense par l'accroissement des techniques de pêche classiques et le développement d'une pêcherie au chalut. L'étude fait le point sur les potentialités de cette ressource : biologie, données de l'échantillonnage, bio-statistique (taille et sexes), relation taille poids des 3 espèces, composition spécifique des captures, décrit les engins de pêche et prospection, localise les lieux de pêche, donne une répartition de l'effort de pêche vénézuélien et chalutier martiniquais. |

It follows the 2001 report, which contains a comprehensive description of the Breton fleet in 2000, i.e., all occupations included, as well as its evolution since 1983. The work carried out in 2002 focused on mapping the fishing zones frequented by Brittany's ships as well as on analysing fishing strategies. |

| On the French Mediterranean coasts, trawl fishing used to be practiced exclusively with two-sided nets until the middle of the 1970s. The adoption of four-sided trawls has changed the composition of species and sizes of the trawlers'catches in this area. Experimental fisheries conducted in the Gulf of Lion on board a research vessel belonging to the IFREMER enabled the study of the selectivity parameters of a four-sided bottom trawl with a wrapping double-pocket. Three pockets of different meshes were tried out on various demersal and pelagic species. The collected data was processed through different selectivity analysis methods. Presented here is an assessment of the relative efficiency of each of these seven methods. |
